Public speaking is also an important skill not only in my role but I think in many positions. There’s a quote, I’m not sure if it’s Jim Greenbaum’s or if he’s quoting someone, that goes “being a bystander to suffering is not an option.” And that’s what keeps me motivated. We manage these online vegan communities with over 2 million members, fostering positive spaces for connection, support, and activism.

  • In terms of areas of expertise, I’ve often felt like leaders (at least those of us who don’t run the really big orgs) are the ultimate generalists.
  • Over time we realized that an self-guided research agenda would have a greater impact on the movement, as would a database of existing research that everyone – not just academics – could access and benefit from.
  • The Faunalytics team would like to use our platform to elevate ten additional organizations in our movement that donors should consider connecting with this Giving Tuesday.
  • We have weekly office hours, and we’d love to get to know you and learn how we can strengthen your work.
  • Each year our research and resources inform over 400,000 animal advocates, and knowing the immense ripple effect of our work is helping the movement succeed every day, it’s the most meaningful thing I could ever hope for.

INSURANCE PLANS ACCEPTED

After years of advocating for animals outside of work, Zach Wulderk decided to make his passion for animals his career. He has a background in economics and political science, graduating from Wesleyan University with a BA in Government, and worked for several years in both economic consulting and economic development before joining the Faunalytics team. Zach is a self-professed R nerd and is always looking for new applications for his favorite software. Outside of work, Zach is often playing music with his band, trying out new vegan recipes, or taking too many pictures of his rescue cats, Zucchini and Hippo. In terms of areas of expertise, I’ve petty cash often felt like leaders (at least those of us who don’t run the really big orgs) are the ultimate generalists. We’ve often gained experience in multiple positions or in multiple organizations, so having a broad arsenal of knowledge has been very valuable to me.

Could you speak more about the board self-assessment and if you have a formal self-assessment at Faunalytics?

Outside of work, they enjoy crafting, hiking, cuddling with their two cats, Luna and Lillian, and sipping iced lattes. With this in mind, the Faunalytics team strives to provide connections between funders and other organizations working on animal protection issues, with a focus on those who might not get as much attention from the philanthropic community. As before, we aren’t suggesting these organizations based on a specific definition of effectiveness. We’re simply encouraging donors to consider all the data available, knowing that our movement needs more than just a few organizations to be successful. We all play a part in this quest to end animal suffering, and the more we lift each other up, the sooner we might get there.

Animals Used in Science

We hope you’ll join us in supporting these groups (as well as those we highlighted in 2022 and 2023) this Giving Season. Should you wish to support brooke haggerty Faunalytics’ own animal advocacy research, please click here. Brooke Haggerty is the Executive Director at Faunalytics, a nonprofit that conducts and shares animal advocacy research. Brooke has an MA in Human Behavior and certifications in Marketing and Nonprofit Management. In terms of more specific accomplishments within that umbrella of the research program, I am very proud of our numbers. Plus another year of the animal tracker, our longitudinal study, and also eight original analyses of existing data sets with our own and others.

We work with advocates during our prioritization process to ensure that our research will be useful to the movement, and in our Community Survey we ask folks to share how they’ve put our work to use. For example, one group used our research on corporate welfare commitments to convince companies they will be viewed favorably if they make policy improvements. Our research with Farm Sanctuary helped show that sanctuary tours Accounting Security can indeed influence dietary change away from animal product consumption. We’ve also seen our research library put to work; for example, one advocate used our article on demystifying dairy to successfully testify against misleading advertising used by dairy corporations in South Africa.
